Learning about our nervous system needs through sensory sensitivities
If we know our sensory sensitivities then we can connect with our sensory NEEDs. They are generally the opposite from our sensitivities!
If chaotic, loud environments like bars, clubs, classrooms, large groups are overwhelming, painful, fatiguing or difficult to communicate in, then this is a sign of an auditory sensitivity.
Then the opposite to this is calming, flowing sounds. Natural, flowing or rocking spaces, calm or loud but moving music with lots of percussion and beat are often meeting our sensory needs. They profoundly regulate and reduce anxiety. We can also think of them as cancelling the other out!
Same principle can be applied to all the senses like light, vision, sounds, temperatures, body position sense, textures. Find sensory sensitivity that dysregulates, add in the sensory needs that profoundly regulate.
